Our way is peace

CIM TEAM On September - 25 - 2017

International Peace Week has been annually hosted in Sanski Most by the Center for Peacebuilding since 2010, hence this year from September 16th to September 21st we celebrated our 8th anniversary. Throughout the whole week, we organized activities and lectures related to peace activism, attended by our volunteers, fellow citizens, peacebuilders from all parts of BiH, as well as our international guests.

At the opening ceremony of the International Peace Week, we awarded our best volunteers for the 2016., as well as the donors of the year. This year, we have announced our peace ambassadors, the people who contribute to peacebuilding in our country on a daily basis with their engagement.

Through our project “Center for Peacebuilding National Reconciliation and Peacebuilding Program” from 16th to 18th  we hosted 50 peacebuilders of various profiles from all over BiH where we exchanged experiences from the field of peace building and ideas for future cooperation in order to build better future for all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina. We have traditionally organized inter-religious dialogue featuring religious leaders from the three different religious communities of Sanski Most where we had the opportunity to hear about peace, coexistence and tolerance from the aspect of different religions.

It was our honor to host Judge Patricia Whalen from the United States who held lectures called “Hunt for Justice” as well as Julianne Funk from the University of Zurich, Switzerland, who talked about trauma and reconciliation.

Our Peace Farm project (Garden of Opportunities) has become an integral part of our International Peace Week, and this year we also hosted numerous guests on Open House Day, where we surrounded by nature held a workshop where our peacebuilders shared their stories of personal transformation towards reconciliation.

Concert of choirs called “Let’s sing for peace” was held on Sunday night within the 8th International Peace Week.

The host of the concert was CIM’s Interreligious choir “Harmonija” and children’s choir “Melody”, and the guests of the concert were: choir HKD “Napredak” from Bugojno, a choir of spiritual music “Sejfullah ” from Konjic and the choir “Ameno” from Prijedor. We shouldn’t underestimate the power of music in connecting people and therefore in building peace.

At the celebration of the Peace Week, we also included our youngest members, CIM’s Children’s Theater “Life”, which performed their first play on Wednesday, September 20th.
On the International Peace Day, on September 21, we organized a celebration with primary school students in a small park at Zdena where they together with our volunteers painted their messages of peace.

For the very end of our International Peace Week we hosted peacebuilders from Ukraine who shared their peacebuilding experience with us.

Our international Peace Week was funded with grants from Konrad Adenauer Stiftung.

We want to thank everyone who was part of our 8th international Peace Week and who help us make positive changes in our society.
