We at the Center for Peacebuilding (CIM) are always trying to design new and innovative activities to promote peace and reconciliation in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). Our programs bring together all sorts of ethnically and nationally diverse individuals and empower them to promote peace in their communities. Said one youth volunteer, “For me CIM is a light at the end of the tunnel. Here, no one cares about youth, and we don’t have the opportunity to express our opinions, to change what we don’t like in our society – CIM gives me that opportunity.” None of this is possible, however, without the support of a wonderful network of people throughout the world who are committed to promoting peace.
As spring arrives and the world slowly thaws, two CIM volunteers – Matt Harms and Jonas Ekblom – are braving aches, pains and sore knees as they prepare to run the Belgrade marathon on 17 April 2011. Neither is an experienced marathoner but both are committed to running in order to raise funds for CIM’s programming. If you’d like to support them in this endeavor you can make donations via CIM’s pay-pal account at http://www.unvocim.net/ENG/viewpage.php?page_id=6.
